Ten years after the opening of the Tung Wah; and next to the Po Leung Kuk comes the Kwong Wah Hospital, incorporated through the assistance of the Tung Wah directors in 1911. It is interesting to note that when the Po Leung Kuk was first formed a piece of ground facing Po Yan Street and Tai Ping Shan Street in close proximity to the Tung Wah main building was loaned by the Tung Wah as a home for women destitutes. The site was used for some fifty years, and was returned to the Tung Wah Hospital three years ago, when the new Po Leung Kuk building was constructed at Causeway Bay. Since then the old Po Leung Kuk in Po Yan Street has been pulled down, and the Directors of the Tung Wah Hospital have built a block of tenement houses in its place. Rent collected therefrom will go to the general endowment fund of the Tung Wah Hospital.
